Features of Fixed Income Securities introduces the student to the details of fixed income securities. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to identify the various types of bonds and preferred stock, identify the features and risks associated with those types of fixed income investments, and understand and interpret bond ratings. Finally, students will gain an understanding of the term structure of interest rates and yield curves, and be able to determine when to select short-term and long-term debt securities.
6-1 Explain terminology, characteristics, and sources of risk of debt securities and preferred stock, including convertible issues of both.
6-2 Explain terminology and characteristics of preferred stocks.
6-3 Evaluate the investment implications of yield curves.
Craig Kinnunen, MS, CFP® is an associate professor at the College for Financial Planning. Prior to joining the College, Craig enjoyed a long and successful career in personal financial planning and wealth management. Craig’s enthusiasm for financial planning extends beyond the classroom, as he also spends time providing pro bono financial education and individual financial counseling to members of the Colorado National Guard.
